T-shirts from Anywhere, Tossed Together, Baked for an Hour, and Reviewed.
For independence day, we thought we'd feature one of the more unique patriotic designs we've run across - no typical stars and stripes in red, white, and blue. This design is a unique vintage American Eagle design from Projekt Brainchild. The great thing is that this t-shirt will still look cool after all the hotdogs have been eaten and all the fireworks are over.
"Love Yourself; Believe In Yourself; Find The Spirit Within and Your Dreams Will Come True." Well, Sir Max certainly isn't very subtle, but they do live up to their shop tagline, "Positive Apparel & Gifts for Positive Attitudes"! Luckily, I think they stop just THIS side of smarmy, and there are no cute cartoon puppies or kittens or rainbows, just a few tasteful angel illustrations here and there.
We thought about doing this t-shirt ourselves, but Glarkware already did it, and quite nicely too! Even if you're not really an old-series Star Trek fan, you've probably seen The Wrath of Kahn, and having seen it, you probably have that image of Captain Kirk's primal scream permanently impressed on your visual cortex. On this shirt's web page, I also like Glarkware's salute to other terrific yells in media history, such as "Mendozaaaaaaaa!", "Steeelllllaaaaaaa!" and so on.

The proud nerds at, well, Proud Nerd are responsible for this creation. Of course, I have to admit that I am also probably a proud nerd, at least in spirit, because this shirt made me guffaw in a very snortful way. Radical -1/64 is on the front, and the quasi-phonetic translation of "I overate." is on the back. Get it? *grin* If you don't, don't worry about it - you're just probably one of the 'cool' kids.
I couldn't decide between the turtle and the dragonfly - I like all of the colors and the layered paper look of each (each of these t-shirts was made using Blue Turtle Studio's hand-made card designs). The t-shirts come in either unisex and scoop neck style, in white, and you can tell them whether you want the design on the front or the back. Nice!
I had a tough time deciding on just one t-shirt to feature from the Going Postal website. They have hundreds of t-shirt designs, all postage stamps from around the world. This one is a 'Whistling Frog' stamp from Bermuda and looks both exotic and summery in it's green coloring. Anyway, if you have a few hours, stop by their website - see stamp art from around the world, and get a chance to wear it too.
Ojai, California artist Mary Ogle has an amazing artistic style that brings layers upon layers of subtle textures and colors to her designs. I was especially taken with this t-shirt of a carousel animal, a tiger actually - there's something mystical about it, as if it might shake off its inanimation at any moment.
What you're looking at is pickles on peanut butter. This design is just weird for weird's sake, something of which I highly approve. Of course my German heritage has me hoping that they are actually eating their creations and not (gasp) wasting food.
There's an elegance to this design that really struck me, the facial expression of the Fox (or Kitsune which roughly translates as fox spirit) and the combination of colors which can be hard to see on this small t-shirt image. You can get a better view of it here by looking at the poster print.
'The Retrovert' features the art and oxymoronic mind of Bradley W. Schenck... 'Non-Conformists Union Local 404 presents - Let's All Go On The Road Less Traveled' This is such a clever t-shirt idea (the back sports the Non-Conformists Union Local 404 Logo as well), and such a slick graphic design overall! And after you visit the site and read the 'history' of the Non-Conformists Union, you'll want to look up your local chapter and become a Non-Conformists Activist, just like the rest of us.
When I saw this design, I was reminded of when my mom used to bring my sister and me with her to her women's bowling league at her local club. We used to hang out in the women's locker room (which also doubled as a storage room, and had a lot of carpet rolls for some reason) and look at all the cool bowling balls - women's bowling balls were allowed to be colorful and swirly unlike the matte black of the men's bowling balls. Anyway, I thought this design was just perfect, especially on a pink shirt!
Okay, I'm a sucker for leaves as subject matter, and also a sucker for more 'loose' style watercolor paintings - this shirt covers both bases quite well. I also like how the rectangular shape of the watercolor paper (background) is only vaguely implied, and you can see where brush strokes have veered out of bounds. The artist is Linda Morrill-Sterritt, and her shop, Watercolors by Linda Morrill-Sterritt, is just that, with a variety of different subjects; stop by and check it out.
