My Lebanon

A wonderfully talented friend of mine who's currently away from her home in Lebanon has started putting some of her fantastic work on t-shirts - yay! The first t-shirt I want to feature here is her logo for Lebanon, and because I want to get it just right, I'm quoting her motivation for the symbology: "Most people think of Lebanon and feel sorry; I want them to think of it and smile. For this I chose the image of the balloon, which keeps rising, is light-hearted icon, and belongs to a child like our country belongs to our children. The text, Wa Lee Lubnanee, means "And I have my Lebanon". It is a quote from an open letter by Khalil Gibran, penned after World War 1: "You have your Lebanon and I have my Lebanon". In it Gibran contrasted the Lebanon of political turmoil with that of its gentle and authentic inhabitants... I wish for all Lebanese and non-Lebanese to remember we are much more than a nation continually dragged into wars."
